The Golden Delicious apple got its start in 1890 as a chance seedling on a West Virginia farm owned by Anderson H. Mullins. It was initially sold under the name ‘Mullins Yellow Seedling’ until 1916 when the rights were sold to Paul Stark of Stark Brothers Nursery, who renamed it ‘Golden Delicious’.
Today it is very common as a supermarket apple variety and is being rehabilitated by apple enthusiasts who are rediscovering its potential.

Originally from U. S. A. (New York), this fruit is Golden Delicious-like in shape, regular, slightly elongated, with a medium stalk and a reddish surface slightly streaked with yellow.
The flesh is fine, juicy, consistent, acidulous and balanced, pleasantly perfumed with very good quality, and the fruit at harvest should have a flesh hardness of 6.0 to 7.0 Kg/0.5 cm2, as well as a refractive index of over 12% (Brix).
